C-FTVF: Air Transat Boeing 737-800 (Still With Partial Transavia Livery)

c-fvtf air transat boeing 737-800 holguin cuba hogWe flew to Cuba on January 17, 2018 in a Sunwing Airlines Boeing 737-800 that was partially painted in the SmartWings livery. Waiting for our flight home from Frank Pais Airport (HOG) in Holguin, Cuba, this Air Transat Boeing 737-800 came in. C-FTVF also had a bit of a hybrid livery, still showing signs of its time with Transavia France. Take a look at the underbelly and the left side winglet for remnants of its old paint job.

We photographed this B738 on January 24, 2018 at HOG. For full-size, high resolution versions of any of the photos in the image gallery, simply click on the individual pictures. See below for more detailed information on C-FTVF, the Boeing 737-800 model in general and the airline.

By the way, the images here and elsewhere on It’s About Airplanes were taken with a Canon Rebel T6i DSLR camera. Not quite the same as a super expensive pro grade camera, nevertheless it does an excellent job at an affordable price.

C-FTVF took its maiden flight on June 15, 2009 and was delivered to Transavia Airlines on June 30, 2009 as PH-ZOM. The Boeing 737-8HX was transferred to sister airline Transavia France on April 1, 2010 as F-GZHF.

Transavia France was founded in 2006 and commenced operations in 2007. This is a low cost subsidiary of Air France and is headquartered in Paray Vieille Poste, France. The airline has a fleet of 29 aircraft, all Boeing 737-800’s, flying to 56 destinations.

Air Transat previously leased the aircraft seasonally from Transavia while retaining the F-GZHF registration number. The B738 was delivered to Air Transat on December 15, 2017 as C-FTVF. This airliner is configured for a maximum total of 189 passengers, all in a single class system.

On March 26, 2017, F-GZHF was flying from Orlando, Florida to Montreal, Quebec for Air Transat. On the descent towards Montreal, at around 25,000 feet, there was a rapid loss of cabin pressure. An emergency decent dropped the aircraft quickly to 7,500 feet with oxygen masks released. The B738 landed safely at YUL with three passengers taken to hospital with minor injuries. As a result, the outflow valve and cabin altitude gauge were replaced.

The Boeing 737-800 is 40 metres or 130 feet in length, 19 feet longer than the Boeing 737-700 variant. The wingspan is 36 metres or 118 feet while standing 13 metres or 41 feet tall at the tail. The flight range is 5,436 kilometres.

First entering service in 1998, the B738 has had over 4,500 delivered to airlines around the world, by far the most popular variant in the Boeing 737 Next Generation Family. The aircraft is in direct competition with the Airbus A320-200.

Air Transat

Air Transat commence operations in 1987 and is headquartered in Montreal, Quebec. The airline has a fleet that fluctuates above and below 30 aircraft, depending on the season, flying to more than 60 destinations in 30 countries.

The fleet consists of Airbus A330-300, Airbus A330-200, Airbus A310-300, Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737-700 airplanes. Starting in 2019, the plan is to replace the classic A310-300 models with new Airbus A321LR airliners.
