The Boeing 737-8CT has been with WestJet since 2008. Previous to that, the same registration number applied to a Boeing 737-200 that had flown with airline between 1999 and 2006. More on that below.

C-GWWJ

C-GWWJ took its first flight on February 11, 2008 and was delivered to WestJet on February 22, 2008. The Boeing 737-8CT is configured for a maximum total of 168 passengers with 12 seats in premium economy and 156 more seats in economy class. This is one of 48 B738 variants in the main WestJet fleet.

It’s been mostly a trouble free existence for this airplane. However, on March 29, 2010 it experienced some problems on a flight that should have went from Vancouver, British Columbia to Hawaii. The crew aborted the takeoff at high speed (110 knots) with two blown tires.

Original C-GWWJ

The original aircraft in the WestJet fleet that wore the registration number C-GWWJ took its maiden flight on November 13, 1978. The Boeing 737-204 was first delivered to Britannia Airways on November 28, 1978 as G-BFVB. Between Britannia and WestJet, the Boeing 737-200 flew for Nordair, Ambassador, Sabre Airways, Peach Air and FSB.

The original C-GWWJ was delivered to WestJet on March 1, 1999. The aircraft was put into storage in 2006 and was scrapped in 2007. This airliner was configured for 130 passengers.

Boeing 737-800

The most popular variant of the Boeing 737 Next Generation Family, the Boeing 737-800 first entered service with Hapaq-Lloyd Flug (now TUIfly) in 1998. Since, over 4,500 have been delivered to airlines around the world.

The B738 is 40 metres or 130 feet in length with a wingspan of 36 metres or 118 feet. At the tail, the aircraft stands 13 metres or 41 feet in height. The flight range is 5,436 kilometres. This is a direct competitor of the Airbus A320-200.
