A6-EDE

A6-EDE performed its first flight on September 29, 2008. The Airbus A380-861 was delivered to Emirates on April 24, 2009. This was the fifth A388 to enter service for the airline. There are now 111 in the fleet with 12 more on order.

This airliner is configured for a maximum total of 516 passengers. There are 14 first class seats, 76 more in business class and 426 economy class seats.

On August 15, 2009, just a few months after entering service, there was a medical emergency on board A6-EDE. On a flight from Dubai, United Arab Emirates to Sydney, Australia, a passenger showed signs of suffering a stroke. The airplane was diverted to Perth, Australia and the passenger was taken to a local hospital. However, this caused a 15 hour delay in the flight.

On December 22, 2013, this Airbus A380-800 was flying fro Melbourne, Australia to Auckland, New Zealand. On approach to the destination, the descent was halted at 4,000 feet. Issues with the flaps resulted in the airplane landing on the second attempt with the flaps in the up position. The landing was successful but took the full runway due to the higher than normal speed.

We’ll wait until the carnage is over before updating…).

The Airplane is 73 metres or 239 feet in length. This is actually three feet shorter than the Boeing 777-300ER. The wingspan is 80 metres or 262 feet while the height at the tail is 24 metres or 79 feet. The flight range is 15,200 kilometres.

Emirates

Headquartered in Garhoud, Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, the airline is owned by the Government of Dubai. Emirates was founded and commenced operations in 1985. The airline has a fleet of over 260 aircraft, led by the Airbus A380-800, flying to over 140 destinations worldwide. Emirates flies nothing smaller than the Boeing 777-200LR. They are the world’s largest operator of both the A388 and Boeing 777-300ER.
