Three days after we photographed A6-ETJ, it performed its last flight before being parked due to the COVID-19 world shutdown. It remains to be seen when, and who with, it will fly again. We captured this Etihad Airways Boeing 777-300ER on March 22, 2020 while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

A6-ETJ

A6-ETJ took its first flight on January 28, 2012. The Boeing 777-3FXER was delivered to Etihad Airways on February 17, 2012. One of 19 in the fleet (for now), this airliner is configured for a maximum total of 380 passengers. There are 40 seats in business class and 340 economy class seats.

On January 1, 2015, this aircraft was flying from Dublin, Ireland to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The initial takeoff attempt was rejected a low speed. There was reported to be a minor technical problem and the flight continued about three and a half hours later.

Boeing 777-300ER

The Boeing 777-300ER was first delivered to launch customer Air France in 2004, nearly a decade after the initial 777 variant was introduced with United Airlines in 1995. The ER is for ‘extended range’ and this aircraft can fly a lofty 13,650 kilometres between stops.

The B77W is 74 metres or 242 feet in length with a wingspan of 65 metres or 213 feet. At the tail, the airliner is 19 metres or 61 feet in height. Though not the most glamorous of the big airplanes, the Boeing 777-300ER is longer than both the Boeing 747-400 (by 10 feet) and Airbus A380-800 (by 3 feet).

Etihad Airways

Etihad Airways was founded in July, 2003 and is headquartered in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The airline is based at Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH). That airport opened in 1982 and has two runways, both, 4,100 metres or 13,451 feet in length.

The airline has a fleet of over 180 aircraft, flying to 130 destinations around the world. The fleet is slated to more than double in size with nearly 160 more airplanes on order. The largest in the fleet is the Airbus A380-800 (to be reinstated into the fleet in 2023) while the most numerous is the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
