It’s hard to believe that in the few years that It’s About Airplanes has been around, A6-ETO is the first airliner we’ve featured from Etihad Airways. After all, they send airplanes to Toronto on a regular basis. We photographed A6-ETO on December 15, 2018 while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

A6-ETO
A6-ETO performed its maiden flight on May 3, 2013 and was delivered to Etihad Airways on May 29, 2013. This Boeing 777-3FXER is configured for a maximum total of 328 passengers. There are eight seats in first class, 40 more in business class and 280 economy class seats.
One of 19 B77W aircraft in the Etihad fleet, A6-ETO has the roomiest of three configurations. The most packed is a version with room for 412 passengers with 28 business class seats and 384 more in economy class. The middle version has 40 business class seats and 340 economy class seats for a capacity of 380 passengers.
Boeing 777-300ER
The Boeing 777-300ER was first delivered to launch customer Air France in 2004, nearly a decade after the initial 777 variant was introduced with United Airlines in 1995. The ER is for ‘extended range’ and this aircraft can fly a lofty 13,650 kilometres between stops.
The B77W is 74 metres or 242 feet in length with a wingspan of 65 metres or 213 feet. At the tail, the airliner is 19 metres or 61 feet in height. Though not the most glamorous of the big airplanes, the Boeing 777-300ER is longer than both the Boeing 747-400 (by 10 feet) and Airbus A380-800 (by 3 feet).
Etihad Airways
Etihad Airways was founded in July, 2003 and is headquartered in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The airline is based at Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH). That airport opened in 1982 and has two runways, both, 4,100 metres or 13,451 feet in length.
The airline has a fleet of over 180 aircraft, flying to 130 destinations around the world. The fleet is slated to more than double in size with nearly 160 more airplanes on order. The largest in the fleet is the Airbus A380-800 (to be reinstated into the fleet in 2023) while the most numerous is the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
