B-16718

B-16718 performed its first flight on March 15, 2014 and was delivered to EVA Air Corporation on May 21, 2014. The Boeing 777-35EER is one of 34 B77W aircraft in the main fleet. B-16718 is configured for a maximum total of 333 passengers with 39 seats in business class, 56 more in premium economy and 238 economy class seats.

On November 22, 2017, the Boeing 777-300ER ran into some rough air on a flight from Taipei, Taiwan to Chicago, Illinois. Cruising at 31,000 feet, near Fukuoka, Japan, the B77W experienced severe turbulence. Despite a serious injury to one member of the cabin crew and minor injuries to eleven other people on the flight, the airliner soldiered on for the remaining eleven hours it took to get to their destination.

On December 2, 2017, B-16718 was de-icing at Toronto Pearson International Airport for a flight to Taipei. Following the de-icing process, the aircraft ran into a pole with the right side wing tip.

Boeing 777-300ER

The Boeing 777-300ER was first delivered to launch customer Air France in 2004, nearly a decade after the initial 777 variant was introduced with United Airlines in 1995. The ER is for 'extended range' and this aircraft can fly a lofty 13,650 kilometres between stops.

The B77W is 74 metres or 242 feet in length with a wingspan of 65 metres or 213 feet. At the tail, the airliner is 19 metres or 61 feet in height. Though not the most glamorous of the big airplanes, the Boeing 777-300ER is longer than both the Boeing 747-400 (by 10 feet) and Airbus A380-800 (by 3 feet).

EVA Air

EVA Air Corporation was founded on March 8, 1989 and commenced operations on July 1, 1991. Headquartered in Taoyuan City, Taiwan, the airline has been a member of the Star Alliance since June 18, 2013. EVA Air's fleet consists of nearly 75 aircraft that fly to over 60 destinations (numbers include cargo division).

The passenger fleet is led in size and quantity by the Boeing 777-300ER. The cargo fleet is made up of Boeing 747-400F and Boeing 777F airplanes with the 747's slated to be phased out in the near future. EVA Air has Boeing 787-9 and Boeing 787-10 airliners on order with deliveries expected to start shortly.
