B-KQY

B-KQY took its maiden flight on May 7, 2015 and was delivered to Cathay Pacific on May 28, 2015. One of 53 B77W aircraft in the CP fleet, these are the airline’s largest but will be pushed to second largest when orders for 21 Boeing 777-9 variants arrive in the future. This Boeing 777-367ER is configured for a maximum total of 340 passengers with 40 seats in business class, 32 more in premium economy and 268 seats in economy class.

On July 11, 2016, after just a little more than a year in service, B-KQY ran into some trouble on a flight from Amsterdam, Netherlands to Hong Kong, China. At 33,000 feet, 50 miles northeast of Minsk, Belarus, crew detected what was possibly a fuel leak from one of the engines. The B77W was diverted to Minsk for a safe landing. A replacement Boeing 777-300ER was brought in to take the passengers on the rest of their journey.

The first Boeing 777-300ER was delivered to Air France in 2004, nearly a decade after the original 777 variant was introduced with United Airlines in 1995. The B77W is 242 feet or 74 metres in length with a wingspan of 65 metres or 213 feet. At the tail, the aircraft stands 19 metres or 61 feet in height. The flight range is a lofty 13,650 kilometres, around 2,500 KM more than the initial 777 variant.

Cathay Pacific was founded on September 24, 1946 and is headquartered at Cathay City on the grounds of Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok, Hong Kong. The airline has a fleet of nearly 150 aircraft flying to 81 destinations worldwide. Cathay Pacific is a founding member of the Oneworld Alliance, along with American Airlines, British Airways, Qantas and the defunct Canadian Airlines.
