In May, 2018, WestJet announced an update to the livery in their main fleet. It marks the first real cosmetic change for the Canadian airline since its inception in 1996. C-FCTK, a Boeing 737 MAX 8, is the first we’ve been able to photograph with the new paint job. We captured shots of this Boeing 737-8 on December 12, 2018 while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

C-FCTK

C-FCTK is brand spanking new. The Boeing 737 MAX 8 performed its first flight on November 15, 2018 and was delivered to WestJet Airlines on November 30, 2018, just two weeks before we photographed it.

This B38M is configured for a maximum total of 174 passengers with 12 seats in premium economy and 162 economy class seats. This is currently one of eleven Boeing 737-8 aircraft in the main fleet. That number is expected to double in the near future.

WestJet Airlines

Founded in 1996, WestJet is headquartered in Calgary, Alberta. The Canadian airline has a fleet of nearly 170 aircraft. The largest in the fleet is the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. The airline is the largest remaining operator of the Boeing 737-600. WestJet flies to nearly 110 destinations in Canada, the United States, Europe, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.

Not included is new ultra low cost carrier subsidiary Swoop. Swoop began service in June, 2018 with a small fleet of Boeing 737-800 aircraft and now mostly flying Boeing 737 MAX 8 models. Swoop will cease to exist at the end of October, 2023 with its aircraft integrated back into the mainline. Also to be integrated in the near future will be the fleet of Sunwing.
