Original Article

When C-FDQV performed its maiden flight back in 1989, it thought it would be starting life with Ansett Australia. However, deals fell through and the Airbus A320-200 ended up with Air Canada and has been with the Canadian airline ever since. We photographed this A320 on June 29, 2018 while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

C-FDQV

C-FDQV performed its first flight on October 23, 1989 and was delivered to Air Canada on February 3, 1990. One of 42 in the main fleet, the Airbus A320-211 is configured for a maximum total of 146 passengers with 14 seats in business class, 36 more in premium economy and 98 economy class seats.

On a flight from Winnipeg, Manitoba to Toronto, Ontario on October 1, 2012, an oven in the forward galley provided some issues. An acrid odour was detected as the A320 began its descent into Toronto. The power to the galley was turned off and the aircraft came in for a safe landing. As a result, the oven and controller were replaced.

On August 26, 2013, C-FDQV was flying from Toronto to Montreal, Quebec. On the climb out of Toronto, a flap/slat system #2 fault indication was received. The climb was stopped and the airliner returned to YYZ for a safe landing 15 minutes later. A ruptured hot water leak in the aft galley was apparently to blame. The #2 slat flap control computer was reset and the leaky hot water pipe was replaced.

On final approach to Toronto on a flight from Montreal on July 17, 2016, an “Auto Brake Fault” message was received and the normal brakes became inoperative. The approach was aborted and the aircraft went around once before landing safely on the second attempt. As a result, the brakes and steering control unit, the brakes pressure transducer unit and the brakes servo valves were replaced.
