C-FGJI: Air Canada Airbus A320-200 (A Well-Travelled Past)

Unlike most Airbus A320-200 models in the Air Canada fleet, C-FGJI didn’t come to the Canadian airline brand new. In fact, the nearly 20 year old aircraft arrived in 2015 after previously serving for Goodjet, Azzurra Air and Thomas Cook Airlines. We photographed this A320 on March 3, 2020 while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

C-FGJI

C-FGJI performed its first flight on April 17, 2002. The Airbus A320-214 was first delivered to Swedish low cost carrier Goodjet on June 7, 2002 as SE-RCB. that airline ceased operations a half year later on January 16, 2003.

Shortly after, the A320 was picked up by Azzurra Air on March 28, 2003 as EI-DBC. That airline, headquartered in Milan, Italy, was founded in 1995 and commenced operations in 1996. Under the ownership of Air Malta, that airline ceased operations in March, 2004.

The next stop was with Thomas Cook Airlines, delivered April 2, 2004 as OO-TCJ. During its over ten years with Thomas Cook, the airliner was named ‘Inspire’. It was stored in October, 2014.

The aircraft then joined the Air Canada fleet on January 21, 2015. Currently, it is one of 35 Airbus A320-200 models in the main fleet. However, that number will be reduced drastically by the end of 2020.

C-FGJI is configured for a maximum total of 146 passengers. There are 14 seats in business class and 132 economy class seats.
