C-FIUA: Air Canada Boeing 777-200LR (1 Of 6 In Fleet)

c-fiua air canada boeing 777-200lr toronto pearson yyzI love the thought of this airplane model simply for its ability to span such a large area of Earth. Dubbed the Worldliner, just 59 Boeing 777-200LR variants were ever delivered and C-FIUA is one of six belonging to Air Canada. We photographed C-FIUA on April 20, 2018 while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

C-FIUA

C-FIUA performed its maiden flight on June 13, 2007 and was delivered to Air Canada on June 25, 2007. This Boeing 777-233LR is configured for a maximum total of 300 passengers with 40 seats in business class, 24 more in premium economy and 236 economy class seats. As mentioned, this is one of six B77L airliners in the main Air Canada fleet.

On July 28, 2011, pampered passenger food service got in the way of a flight from Sydney, Australia to Vancouver, British Columbia. About 140 miles out of Sydney, crew detected smoke coming from a galley oven. C-FIUA was diverted back to Sydney for a safe landing after dumping fuel. The oven was removed and the flight was able to carry on to YVR after nearly two hours on the ground.

Boeing 777-200LR

The LR in Boeing 777-200LR is for ‘longer range’. The B77L has been dubbed the Worldliner by its manufacturer as it can connect almost any two airports on Earth in a single flight. The variant holds the record for the longest non-stop flight by a commercial airliner.

The first Boeing 777-200LR was delivered to Pakistan International Airlines on February 26, 2006. In all, just 59 were delivered. The aircraft is 64 metres or 209 feet in length with a wingspan of 65 metres or 213 feet. At the tail, the airliner stands 19 metres or 61 feet in height. The flight range is 15,840 kilometers, more than 2,000 KM further than both the Boeing 777-200ER and Boeing 777-300ER.
