The smallest in the Air Canada main fleet, C-FMZU is one of 25 Embraer ERJ-190AR aircraft currently flying for the Canadian airline. These are slated to someday be replaced by Bombardier CS300 models. We photographed this airliner on December 3, 2017 while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

C-FMZU
C-FMZU was manufactured by Embraer in 2007 and delivered to Air Canada on November 2, 2007. The Embraer ERJ-190AR is configured for a maximum total of 97 passengers with nine seats in business class and 88 more in economy class. As mentioned, this one of 25 E190 airliners in the main Air Canada fleet.
Not a perfect record, C-FMZU has had a few incidents over the years. On November 19, 2010, the E190 was flying from Calgary, Alberta to Vancouver, British Columbia. On approach to YVR, the crew received a ‘Slat Fail’ message. After aborting the approach, emergency services were requested to be on standby but were not needed as the airplane landed safely 25 minutes after missing the first landing. As a result, the left side slat harness was replaced.
On May 4, 2012, the Embraer ERJ-190AR was flying from Newark, New Jersey to Calgary, Alberta. At 22,000 feet, crew reported loss of cabin pressure and descended back down to 10,000 feet. Cruising at that altitude, C-FMZU was diverted to Toronto Pearson International Airport for a safe landing.
On July 5, 2014, the aircraft was flying from Calgary to Newark. The crew received a mess of error messages just before starting their descent into Newark. All messages had to do with the electrical system. The aircraft landed safely. The result was the replacement of the #1 generator control unit and the #1 integrated drive generator.
Embraer ERJ-190AR
The first Embraer ERJ190 took its maiden flight on March 12, 2004 and JetBlue took the first delivery in 2005. JetBlue remains the top operator of this type of aircraft. The 190 is the most popular of the E-Jet family with around 550 delivered.
The ERJ-190AR is 36 metres or 119 feet in length with a wingspan of 29 metres or 94 feet. At the tail, the aircraft stands eleven metres or 35 feet in height. The flight range is 4,537 kilometres, just 900 KM less than a Boeing 737-800.
Air Canada
Air Canada was founded in 1937 as Trans Canada Air Lines, under the watchful eye of the Canadian National Railway. Although the present name was used prior, it was officially switched on January 1, 1965. The airline is now headquartered on the grounds of Montreal Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL) and is a founding member of the Star Alliance.
In the main fleet, there are around 175 aircraft flying to over 200 destinations around the world. With subsidiaries Air Canada Rouge and Air Canada Express added in, those numbers balloon to over 400 aircraft flying to over 350 destinations worldwide.
