C-FYJE

C-FYJE performed its first flight on February 13, 1997. The Airbus A319-114 was delivered to Air Canada on March 13, 1997. The airplane was transferred to Rouge on November 13, 2013.

This A319 is configured for a maximum total of 136 passengers. There are 12 seats in premium economy and 124 economy class seats. This is one of 22 in the Rouge fleet.

On May 15, 2000, while flying from Toronto, Ontario to San Francisco, California for the main fleet, C-FYJE had some interesting issues. At 35,000 feet, not long after take-off, the left side overwing emergency slide was accidentally deployed. After flapping on the side of the plane for 10 to 15 minutes, the slide broke loose. It was found tangled in a tree near Goderich, Ontario. The flight continued to SFO for a safe landing and the slide was replaced.

Still with the main fleet, on August 18, 2013, this Airbus A319-100 was flying from San Diego, California to Toronto. After takeoff, crew had to rush the climb due to traffic. The sudden maneouver caused a flight attendant to incur minor injuries.

On a flight from Toronto to Kingston, Jamaica on January 7, 2016, crew had problems on the approach. A flaps fault was received and a flaps up landing was necessary. The issue was caused by the mechanical drive unit. An adjustment fixed the problem.

Earlier this year, on July 15, 2019, the airliner was flying from Las Vegas, Nevada to Calgary, Alberta. The initial climb was halted at 9,000 feet after crew received an indication that all the fluid in the green hydraulic system had leaked out. After declaring an emergency, the A319 diverted back to Las Vegas for a safe landing.

Airbus A319-100

The maiden flight of the Airbus A319-100 occurred on August 25, 1995 with the aircraft introduced with launch customer Swissair in 1996. The shortened version of the Airbus A320-200, the A319 is 34 metres or 111 feet in length with a wingspan of 36 metres or 118 feet. At the tail, the airplane is 12 metres or 39 feet in height. The flight range is 6,950 kilometres.

Air Canada Rouge

Air Canada Rouge was founded in December, 2012 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Air Canada. The brand has a fleet of over 60 aircraft flying to 50 destinations. Prior to March, 2020, there were 25 Boeing 767-300ER, 22 Airbus A319-100, four Airbus A320-200 and 14 Airbus A321-200 models.

The airline announced at the start of May, 2020 that all Boeing 767 and Airbus A319 aircraft would be retired, a result of the COVID-19 fallout. This leaves the brand with just 18 airlines, all either Airbus A321-200 or Airbus A320-200. Through the main airline, Rouge is a member of the Star Alliance.
