C-GFAF

C-GFAF performed its first flight on June 7, 1999. The Airbus A330-343x was delivered to Air Canada on January 13, 2000. This is one of 14 A333 airliners in the fleet with more on order, replacing all Boeing 767-300ER models. This is the oldest Airbus A330-300 in the fleet, sort of. By actual age, it is. However, C-GFAH, two months younger, has been in service about three months longer.

This airplane is configured for a maximum total of 292 passengers. There are 27 seats in business class, 21 more seats in premium economy and 244 economy class seats.

Incidents

On October 7, 2014, passengers and crew experienced a bit of a scary situation. On a flight from Frankfurt, Germany to Montreal, Quebec, all seemed well coming into the destination. However, after landing, the aircraft veered left and the main gear traveled on soft ground for 170 metres or 550 feet. Crew was able to stabilize the aircraft and get back onto the runway.

On a flight from Zurich, Switzerland to Toronto, Ontario on March 23, 2018, this Airbus A330-300 experienced some mechanical difficulties. On the initial climb out of Zurich, an indication was received that the blue hydraulic system had failed. The flight was continued to its destination without incident. As a result, the leak measurement ground manifold and the left side engine blue engine driven pump assembly were replaced. As well, the pressure, return and case drain filters were replaced.

On May 5, 2019, C-GFAF was to fly from Toronto to Dublin, Ireland. Just after takeoff, an unusual engine vibration was experienced. It was decided to return to YYZ. It was found a bird strike had damaged three fan blades.
