C-GFCI is our second of five Airbus A320-200 aircraft that joined the Air Canada Rouge fleet from Mexico based Interjet. This A320 met up with some severe turbulence on a December, 2019 flight from Toronto, Ontario to Veradero, Cuba.

We photographed this airliner on March 3, 2020 while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

C-GFCI performed its maiden flight on October 9, 2007. The Airbus A320-214 was delivered to Interjet on October 26, 2007 as XA-MXM. Interjet is an airliner headquartered in Mexico City, Mexico. This airplane was delivered to Air Canada Rouge on June 14, 2019.

This Airbus A320-200 is configured to a maximum total of 162 passengers. There are 12 seats in premium economy and 150 economy class seats. This is one of five A320 models in the Rouge fleet.

On December 15, 2019, this aircraft was flying from Toronto Pearson to Veradero, Cuba. On the descent into the destination, flying through 21,000 feet, sudden strong up / down drafts were experienced. Four passengers, who ignored the fasten seat belts sign, and three flight attendants were injured.

The Airbus A320 is the leader of the Airbus A320 family. The A321 is the extended version while the A319 and A318 are shrunken versions. The airplane is 38 metres or 123 feet in length with a wingspan of 36 metres or 118 feet. At the tail, the aircraft stands 12 metres or 39 feet in height. The flight range is 6,100 kilometres.

The first Airbus A320 was introduced in 1988 with Air France. Somewhere around 4,400 of the A320 have been built and around 7,500 aircraft from the A320 family have been put into service.

Air Canada Rouge

Air Canada Rouge was founded in December, 2012 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Air Canada. The brand has a fleet of over 60 aircraft flying to 50 destinations. Prior to March, 2020, there were 25 Boeing 767-300ER, 22 Airbus A319-100, four Airbus A320-200 and 14 Airbus A321-200 models.

The airline announced at the start of May, 2020 that all Boeing 767 and Airbus A319 aircraft would be retired, a result of the COVID-19 fallout. This leaves the brand with just 18 airlines, all either Airbus A321-200 or Airbus A320-200. Through the main airline, Rouge is a member of the Star Alliance.
