C-GRAX
C-GRAX performed its maiden flight on October 26, 2017 and was delivered to WestJet on November 9, 2017. This is one of five Boeing 737 MAX 8 airliners currently in the main WestJet fleet with 15 more on order. This B38M is configured for a maximum total of 174 passengers with 12 seats in premium economy and 162 economy class seats.
Boeing 737 MAX 8
The initial variant in the Boeing 737 MAX family, the Boeing 737 MAX 8 first flew on January 29, 2016. The first commercial flight took place on May 22, 2017 with launch customer Malindo Air. Over 4,000 737 MAX family airplanes were placed on order with just 110 of those orders filled as of March 31, 2018.
The B38M is 40 metres or 130 feet in length with a wingspan of 36 metres or 118 feet. At the tail, the aircraft is 12 metres or 40 feet in height. This makes it slightly longer than the Boeing 737-800 and slightly shorter than the B738. The flight range is 6,570 kilometres which is a lofty 1,000 KM more than the 737-800.
WestJet Airlines
WestJet Airlines was founded in 1996 and is headquartered in Calgary, Alberta. The Canadian airline has a main fleet of over 125 aircraft with 60 more on order. Currently, the highest passenger capacity airliner in the fleet is the Boeing 767-300ER. There are Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner models on order. WestJet flies to nearly 110 destinations in Canada, the United States, Europe, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. The B789 aircraft should allow them to expand on that range.
The numbers above do not include subsidiaries. Regional carrier WestJet Encore flies a fleet of Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 aircraft. Swoop is a wholly owned ultra low cost subsidiary that will begin operations in June, 2018 with a small fleet of Boeing 737-800 airliners.
