Recently, we featured C-GRTB, one of WestJet’s newest Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Today, it’s C-GWSR, one of the Canadian airline’s oldest B738 models. More on that below. We photographed this airliner on August 7, 2020 while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

C-GWSR

C-GWSR performed its first flight on February 4, 2009. The Boeing 737-8Q8 was delivered to WestJet on February 13, 2009. One of 39 B738 models in the fleet, this is the eighth oldest.

This airliner is configured for a maximum total of 174 passengers. There are 12 seats in premium economy and 162 economy class seats.

On February 18, 2009, in its first week of passenger service for WestJet, this airplane was flying from Calgary, Alberta to Grand Prairie, Alberta. On final approach, crew had issues with the flaps and had to perform and abnormal flaps landing. The aircraft, however, landed without incident.

On a flight from Edmonton, Alberta to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico on April 25, 2012, the aircraft had issues shortly after takeoff. While reaching its cruise altitude of 28,000 feet, 100 miles past Calgary, an engine #1 hydraulic pump low pressure indication was received by the crew. The pump was shut down and the flight was diverted to Calgary for a safe landing. As a result, the hydraulic supply line, return line, case drain filter, return filter, pressure filter and hydraulic pump were replaced.
