Maybe not as nostalgic as some of the old DC-10 aircraft flying for FedEx, D-ALCK is still a throwback sight in the skies. The Lufthansa Cargo McDonnell Douglas MD-11 Freighter has been around since 2000. We photographed the MD-11F on April 20, 2018 while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ)

D-ALCK
D-ALCK is a one owner aircraft. The McDonnell Douglas MD-11F was delivered to Lufthansa Cargo on May 31, 2000 and has been with the German airline since. This is one of 12 MD-11F airplanes in the fleet and one of 17 aircraft overall in Lufthansa’s cargo division.

McDonnell Douglas MD-11F
The first McDonnell Douglas MD-11 flew on January 10, 1990 and the first passenger variant was introduced with launch customer Finnair in December, 1990. In all, 200 were built with 53 of those being the MD-11 Freighter. The MD-11F was one of two variants offered when the aircraft family was launched. FedEx and Lufthansa Cargo were the airplane’s largest operators.
The MD-11 Freighter is 62 metres or 202 feet in length with a wingspan of 52 metres or 170 feet. At the tail, the aircraft stands 18 metres or 58 feet in length. Full loaded, the airplane has a flight range of 7,320 kilometres. The MD-11 was built by McDonnell Douglas from 1988 to 1997 and by Boeing from 1997 to 2000.
Lufthansa Cargo
Lufthansa Cargo is a fully owned subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group. The division was founded in 1977 and was formerly known as German Cargo. Headquartered in Frankfurt, Germany, there are currently 17 aircraft in the fleet (12 MD-11F and 5 Boeing 777F) flying to 57 regular destinations.
Lufthansa was founded in 1953 and commenced operations two years later. Headquartered in Cologne, Germany, the airline has a main passenger fleet of around 280 airliners flying to 220 destinations around the world. Lufthansa is a founding member of the Star Alliance.
