A beautiful sight. This Boeing 747-436, registered G-CIVD, belonging to British Airways was captured landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) on April 28, 2016. This particular aircraft was painted with the OneWorld logo in January, 2014. BIA is, of course, a member of the One World Alliance.
On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, this 747-400 lands at Toronto Pearson close to the same time an identical aircraft belonging to Lufthansa hits the ground in Toronto. The two are usually joined by an Emirates Airbus A380, providing a great afternoon planespotting show at YYZ.

G-CIVD
Officially a Boeing 747-436, this aircraft took its first flight on November 23, 1994 and was delivered to British Airways on December 14, 1994. Based at Heathrow Airport (LHR) in London, England, this Boeing 747 is configured with 14 first class seats, 52 club world seats, 36 world traveller plus seats and 235 world traveller seats.
In the past few years, G-CIVD has been involved in a few incidents. On September 13, 2013, the Boeing 747 was travelling from Heathrow to Johannesburg, South Africa. Somewhere over Algiers, Algeria, the airplane experienced engine trouble and had to turn around, returning to London safely.
On April 7, 2014, the jumbo jet was travelling from Miami, Florida to Heathrow Airport in England. Upon takeoff and over the distance from Miami to the Bahamas, the crew brought the Boeing 747 back to Miami after changing elevations numerous times.
Boeing 747-400
The first -400 version of the iconic Boeing 747 jumbo jet took its first flight in 1988 and was introduced in 1989. In total, 694 were built with many now slated for retirement. The first ever version of a Boeing 747 was introduced in 1969.
The Boeing 747-400 is 70.7 metres long with a wingspan of 64.4 metres. At the tail, the aircraft is 19.4 metres in height. The flight range is 12,500 kilometres.
British Airways
British Airways was created in 1974 after the merger of four different airlines in England, creating a single national carrier. BIA is a founding member of the OneWorld alliance.
Currently, British Airways has 290 aircraft in the skies, travelling to 183 destinations worldwide. Of those 290 airplanes, 52 are some form of Boeing 747 and eleven are Airbus A380’s.
