We didn’t know at the time, but with N9029F we photographed an airplane full of most likely upset passengers. This American Airlines Airbus A319-100 was supposed to be on its way to Chicago. Instead, it had to divert back to Toronto because of fumes detected in the cockpit. More on that below.

We photographed this A319 on February 17, 2020 while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

N9029F

N9029F performed its first flight on February 24, 2015. The Airbus A319-115 was delivered to American Airlines on March 3, 2015. This is the fourth newest of 133 A319 models in the main fleet of this U.S. airline.

The aircraft is configured for a maximum total of 128 passengers. There are eight seats in business class, 24 more in premium economy and 96 economy class seats.

On February 17, 2020, this airliner was supposed to be flying from Toronto to Chicago, Illinois. The climb was halted at 28,000 feet and crew put on their oxygen masks after fumes were detected in the cockpit. The airplane turned around and headed back to Toronto for a safe landing. After two hours on the ground, the flight resumed with a delay of just over two hours.
