PH-BKA, the start of a new era with KLM. This is the first Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner in the fleet. We photographed this B78X on September 12, 2020 while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

PH-BKA

PH-BKA performed its first flight on June 15, 2019. The Boeing 787-10 was delivered to KLM Royal Dutch Airlines on June 29, 2019. The aircraft is named Oranjebloesem, which translates to Orange Blossom in English.

This is the first Boeing 787-10 to join the fleet. It is one five currently with ten more on order. The aircraft is painted with a special 100 year anniversary livery.

The airliner is configured for a maximum total of 344 passengers. There are 38 seats in business class, 36 more in premium economy and 270 economy class seats.

Boeing 787-10

The longest and newest variant in Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner series of long haul, wide body aircraft. The first appeared with launch customer Singapore Airlines. The 1000th Dreamliner built was a B78X, making its maiden flight with Singapore Airlines in April, 2020.

The Boeing 787-10 is 224 feet or 68.24 metres in length with a wingspan of 197 feet or 60.12 metres. The wingspan is common across all three variants of the 787. At the tail, the airliner stands 56 feet or 17.02 metres in height. The flight range is 11,910 kilometres, lower that the B788 and B789.

KLM

The KLM in KLM Royal Dutch Airlines stands for Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij. The airline was founded in October, 1919, making it the oldest airline in the world still operating under its original name. The airline is headquartered in Amstelven, Netherlands and uses Amsterdam Schiphol Airport as its main hub.

The airline currently has nearly 120 aircraft in the main fleet, flying to 145 destinations around the world. The airline merged with Air France in 2004, the same year it joined the SkyTeam Alliance. SkyTeam was founded in 2000 and now has 20 full member airlines.

This airline was the last to operate the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 for passenger service. The last in the fleet was retired in 2014.
