In our bigger, better world, it’s funny how 20 feet an a single digit change in your name makes you inferior. C-GHPV is a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner belonging to Air Canada. However, from the ground, the earlier model of the 787 is just as majestic as the newer, longer 787-9. We photographed this particular aircraft while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) on July 21, 2017.

C-GHPV
C-GHPV took its first flight on August 21, 2014 and was delivered to Air Canada on September 25, 2014. This is one of eight Boeing 787-8 aircraft in the fleet while the airline has 29 of the larger 787-9 model currently flying. This airliner is configured for a maximum total of 251 passengers with 20 in business class, 21 more in premium economy and 210 in economy class.
The Boeing 787-8 had a battle with Mother Nature on October 25, 2015. C-GHPV was flying from Toronto, Ontario to Tel Aviv in Israel. On approach to Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, the airplane experienced bad weather. After lightning struck the wing, the crew aborted the approach and diverted to Paphos, Cyprus, landing safely 50 minutes later. The Boeing B788 was grounded in Cyprus for several days while a replacement, C-GHPY, was brought in to take the passengers to their destination.
Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner
The initial variant of the 787 Family, the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner entered service in 2011 with All-Nippon Airways, while LOT Polish Airlines was the first European operator. The aircraft shares a common wingspan and tail height with the newer B789 with a wingspan of 60 metres or 197 feet and a tail height of 17 metres or 56 feet. However, the 787-8 is 20 feet shorter at 57 metres or 186 feet in length. The flight range is 13,621 kilometres, about 500 KM less that the B789.
