Hopefully Air Canada had a warranty on C-FGHZ. The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner had major issues in its first month performing flights for the Canadian airline (more on that below). We photographed this B789 on March 15, 2020 while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

C-FGHZ

C-FGHZ performed its first flight on May 11, 2016. The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner was delivered to Air Canada on June 4, 2016. One of 29 B789 models in the fleet, this aircraft is configured for a maximum total of 298 passengers. There are 30 seats in business class, 21 more in premium economy and 247 economy class seats.

On July 3, 2016, the Boeing 787-9 was to fly from Toronto, Ontario to Copenhagen, Denmark. At around 25,000 feet on the initial climb, the cabin altitude was fast approaching 10,000 feet. An emergency was declared, fuel was dumped and the aircraft returned to Toronto for a safe landing. As a result, the E/E cooling exhaust fan assembly was replaced.

Less than a year later, on March 12, 2017, this airliner again experienced mechanical problems. Flying from Dubai, United Arab Emirates to Toronto, the takeoff was rejected after the right side engine experienced a compressor stall. However, no faults were found and the flight continued two and a half hours later and reached its destination without further incident.
