Hopefully, the current Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner registered C-GHQY with Air Canada has a safer, more incident free life than the last aircraft with that registration number. More on that below. One of eight B788 airliners in the fleet of the Canadian airline, we photographed C-GHQY while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

C-GHQY

C-GHQY performed its initial flight on January 27, 2015 and was delivered to Air Canada on February 25, 2015. One of eight Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft in the main Air Canada fleet, the airliner is configured for a maximum total of 251 passengers with 20 seats in business class, 21 more in premium economy and 210 economy class seats.

The registration number C-GHQY is recycled. It once belonged to a Conair Firecat. Unfortunately, that airplane crashed in McBride, British Columbia on August 15, 1986, killing the pilot, the lone occupant of the aircraft.

On November 23, 2019, this B788 was flying from London, England to Toronto, Ontario. Flying at 39,000 feet, about 300 miles over the Atlantic Ocean from Shannon, Ireland, a cracked windshield was detected. The flight was diverted to Dublin, Ireland for a safe landing. A replacement Boeing 787-8 (C-GHPT) was brought in to resume the flight.
