These CRJ-705’s are everywhere, covering short distances a lot of times in a short period of time. This plane, C-FKJZ, was spotted landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport on January 31, 2015. It may well have been the second, third or even fourth time it had landed at YYZ that day.

C-FKJZ is a Bombardier CRJ-705 belonging to Air Canada Express. The airplane was originally delivered to Air Canada Jazz in June, 2005. The plane has been active with Air Canada Express since 2011. C-FKJZ is based at Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ). She is configured with ten business class seats, along with 65 more in economy class. The airplane is owned by Chorus Aviation.

This particular CRJ-705 has been involved in a few incidents, the last in 2011. On February 26, 2011, the airplane suffered a hydraulic failure. On a flight from Winnipeg, Manitoba to Ottawa, Ontario, it was observed that hydraulic fluid for the #2 hydraulic system had dropped to zero. The plane landed at Ottawa safely.

On December 6, 2008, the plane was on a flight from Vancouver, British Columbia to San Diego, California. After takeoff, the plane returned to YVR when it was determined that the nose gear had not retracted. The airplane landed but had to be towed to a hangar for repairs.

Bombardier CRJ-705

The Bombardier CRJ-705 (CRJ for Canadair Regional Jet) is a short range jet liner that can travel up to 2,778 kilometres. The CRJ-700 was introduced in 2001 with final assembly taking place at Montreal’s Mirabel International Airport.

The regional jet is 36 metres or 119 feet in length with a wingspan of 25 metres or 82 feet. At the tail, the CRJ-705 stands eight metres or 25 feet high.

Air Canada Express

Founded in 2011 as a regional subsidiary of Air Canada, Air Canada Express has a fleet of 171 with 119 destinations. The airline is headquartered in Montreal and was formerly Air Canada Jazz. All Express traffic is contracted out to four different regional airlines, including Air Georgian, Exploits Valley Air Services, Jazz Aviation and Sky Regional Airlines.

Jazz Aviation / Jazz Air

Jazz Aviation or Jazz Air is wholly owned by Chorus Aviation. Chorus primarily contracts to Air Canada under the Air Canada Express name. The airline was founded in 2001 and is headquartered at Halifax Stanfield International Airport in Enfield, Nova Scotia. There are 115 planes in the fleet and they travel to 79 different destinations.
