Time is running out for close to half of Air Canada’s Embraer ERJ-190AR aircraft with the 25 in the current fleet slated for phaseout by the end of 2019. C-FNAP has been around since 2007 and will be replaced by either the Boeing 737 MAX 8 or Bombardier CS300 in the coming years. C-FNAP
C-FNAP was delivered to Air Canada on December 21, 2007. This is currently one of 25 Embraer ERJ-190AR aircraft in the main fleet. The airliner is configured for a maximum total of 97 passengers with nine seats in business class, 20 more seats in premium economy and 68 economy class seats.
As mentioned, by the end of 2019, the airline will have phased out all of their E190 aircraft. This has been accelerated from a previous plan to phase out six by the end of 2018 and five more by the end of 2019. These aircraft will be replaced by brand new Boeing 737 MAX 8 and Bombardier CS300 models.
Embraer ERJ-190AR
The first Embraer ERJ-190 took flight on March 12, 2004 with launch customer JetBlue taking the first delivery in 2005. JetBlue remains the airliner’s top operator. The most popular in the E-Jet Family, which includes the E170, E175, E190 and E190, around 550 have been delivered, to date.
The ERJ-190 is 36 metres or 119 feet in length with a wingspan of 29 metres or 94 feet. At the tail, the aircraft stands eleven metres or 35 feet in height. The flight range is 4,537 kilometres, about 900 KM less than the Boeing 737-800.
Air Canada
Air Canada was founded in 1937 as Trans Canada Air Lines. On January 1, 1965, the airline commenced operations under its current name. Headquartered at the Air Canada Centre on the grounds of Montreal Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL) in Dorval, Quebec, Air Canada has a main fleet of around 175 aircraft flying to over 200 destinations around the world. With subsidiaries Air Canada Rouge and Air Canada Express added in, those numbers balloon to over 400 aircraft flying to 350 destinations worldwide.
The airline is a founding member of the Star Alliance. Other founding members include Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines, Thai Airways and United Airlines. There are now 27 member airlines in the alliance.
