The Boeing 737-800 was leased to Sunwing Airlines when we photographed it on March 10, 2018 while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

C-FVWA

C-FVWA performed its maiden flight on January 13, 2012 and was delivered to Thomson Airways on January 30, 2012 as G-TAWA. Thomson Airways was originally founded in 1962 as Brittania Airways. The world’s largest charter airline was called Thomson Airways from 2008 until October 1, 2017. Since, the name has changed to TUI Airways for the U.K. based airline.

TUI Airways has a fleet of over 60 aircraft flying to nearly 100 destinations. The most numerous in the fleet is the Boeing 737-800 while the largest is the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. They have 16 Boeing 737 MAX 10 models on order.

C-FVWA last flew with Sunwing Airlines from November 29, 2017 until the end of April, 2018. The Boeing 737-8K5 is configured for a maximum total of 189 passengers in a single class system.




Boeing 737-800

The most popular variant in the Boeing 737 Next Generation Family, there have been over 4,500 Boeing 737-800 models delivered to airlines around the world. The first B738 entered service in 1998. The aircraft is a direct competitor to the Airbus A320-200.

The Boeing 737-800 is 40 metres or 130 feet in length with a wingspan of 36 metres or 118 feet. At the tail, the airplane stands 13 metres or 41 feet in height. The flight range is 5,436 kilometres.


Sunwing Airlines

Sunwing Airlines was founded and commenced operations in 2005. The airline is headquartered in Toronto, Ontario and flies to over 70 sunshine destinations in the United States, Mexico, Central America, South America and the Caribbean. Sunwing has a fleet that fluctuates around 30 airliners with 23 airliners in the fleet full-time. The fleet consists mostly of Boeing 737-800 models with two Boeing 737 MAX 8 models also now flying for this Canadian charter airline.
