C-GRTB is one of the newest Boeing 737-800 models in the WestJet fleet. Just a year into service, the B738 experienced a tail strike incident (more on that below). We photographed this aircraft on August 7, 2020 while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

C-GRTB

C-GRTB performed its first flight on November 28, 2016. The Boeing 737-8CT was delivered to WestJet on December 8, 2016. This is the fourth youngest B738 in the fleet of the Canadian airline, delivered the same month as the third youngest, C-FXMS. The airliner is one of 39 Boeing 737-800 models in the fleet.

This airplane is configured for a maximum total of 174 passengers. There are 12 seats in premium economy and 162 economy class seats.

On November 18, 2017, less than a year after being delivered, C-GRTB was flying from Toronto, Ontario to Las Vegas, Nevada. On takeoff, a tail strike was detected by the crew. The climb was stopped at 10,000 feet then again at 20,000 before dropping to 11,000 feet for a two hour fuel burn off. The flight eventually returned to YYZ for a safe landing. An inspection was done to the tail skid and it was determined that no repairs were necessary.
