We’ve previously featured C-GSCA before, as a member of the mainline Air Canada fleet. We felt it was time to give the Boeing 767-300ER its own spot on our Air Canada Rouge page. We photographed this aircraft on August 11, 2019 while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

C-GSCA

C-GSCA performed its first flight on May 17, 1991. The Boeing 767-375ER was first delivered to Canadian Airlines on June 4, 1991. From October, 1993 to May 1, 1998, this B763 flew for China Southern Airlines as B-2564 before returning to Canadian Airlines.

The airliner was then transferred to Air Canada on March 29, 2001 after the two airlines merged. It was moved to Rouge on May 9, 2017.

This Boeing 767-300ER is configured for a maximum total of 282 passengers. There are 24 seats in business class and 258 economy class seats. This is one of 25 B763 models in the fleet.

On June 30, 2018, the aircraft was flying from Montreal, Quebec to Venice, Italy. Cruising at 36,000 feet over the Atlantic Ocean, crew detected an unusual drop in hydraulic fluid in the centre system. That particular system was shut down and the flight was able to continue to its destination for a safe landing. A leak was found on a flex hose at the left side main landing gear side brace. That hose was replaced.

Most recently, on June 5, 2019, the airliner was flying from Athens, Greece to Toronto, Ontario. The takeoff attempt was rejected at high speed after the right side engine became unresponsive. The hard braking resulted in two blown landing gear tires, along with the engine problems.

Boeing 767-300ER

The first Boeing 767-300ER was introduced with launch customer American Airlines in 1988, seven years after the initial 767 variant entered service with United Airlines in 1981. A direct competitor to the Airbus A330-200, 583 were delivered, in all.

The B763 is 55 metres or 180 feet in length with a wingspan of 48 metres or 156 feet. At the tail, the airliner stands 16 metres or 52 feet in height. The flight range is 11,070 kilometres.

Air Canada Rouge

Air Canada Rouge was founded in December, 2012 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Air Canada. The brand has a fleet of over 60 aircraft flying to 50 destinations. Prior to March, 2020, there were 25 Boeing 767-300ER, 22 Airbus A319-100, four Airbus A320-200 and 14 Airbus A321-200 models.

The airline announced at the start of May, 2020 that all Boeing 767 and Airbus A319 aircraft would be retired, a result of the COVID-19 fallout. This leaves the brand with just 18 airlines, all either Airbus A321-200 or Airbus A320-200. Through the main airline, Rouge is a member of the Star Alliance.
