C-GSJB started life with Air Canada back in 2002. The Airbus A319-100 spent time with Mexicana Airlines. When that Mexican airline ceased operations in 2010, the A319 found its way back to Canada. In 2013, it was transferred to its current home in the Air Canada Rouge fleet. We photographed C-GSJB on August 13, 2017 while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

C-GSJB

C-GSJB performed its maiden flight on January 21, 2002 and was first delivered to Air Canada on February 8, 2002 as C-GJTA. On April 1, 2007, the Airbus A319-112 was delivered to Mexicana as XA-MXH. Mexicana ceased operations on August 28, 2010.

On December 2, 2010, this A319 was sent back to Air Canada’s mainline fleet as C-GSJB. On May 29, 2013, the airliner was transferred to the Air Canada Rouge fleet.

C-GSJB is configured for a maximum total of 136 passengers. There are 12 seats in premium economy and 124 economy class seats. This is one of 22 A319 aircraft in the Rouge fleet.

On October 20, 2014, this Airbus A319-100 was flying from Toronto, Ontario to St. George’s, Grenada. At 33,000 feet, just south of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, crew experienced a loud noise followed by an acrid smell in the cockpit. It was decided to divert back to Toronto. The noise occurred twice more before a safe landing back at YYZ. The culprit was a a worn exhaust fan bearing on the Avionics Equipment Vent Control. The fan was replaced.

Air Canada Rouge

Air Canada Rouge was founded in December, 2012 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Air Canada. The brand has a fleet of over 60 aircraft flying to 50 destinations. Prior to March, 2020, there were 25 Boeing 767-300ER, 22 Airbus A319-100, four Airbus A320-200 and 14 Airbus A321-200 models.

The airline announced at the start of May, 2020 that all Boeing 767 and Airbus A319 aircraft would be retired, a result of the COVID-19 fallout. This leaves the brand with just 18 airlines, all either Airbus A321-200 or Airbus A320-200. Through the main airline, Rouge is a member of the Star Alliance.
