C-GTVC: Air Transat Boeing 737-800 (Leased From Transavia France)

c-gtvc air transat boeing 737-800 transavia france toronto pearson yyzWhen you photograph vacation charter airlines in Canada, like Air Transat or Sunwing, you get used to seeing liveries similar to what a five year old would look like if he dressed himself. C-GTVC wears what I would call a hybrid livery. The Boeing 737-800 shows a lot of evidence that it belongs to Transavia France with Air Transat branding hastily painted on for the season.

We photographed C-GTVC, better known as F-GZHC when it’s back home in France, while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) on March 25, 2018. For full-size, high resolution versions for any of the photos in the image gallery, simply click on the individual pictures. See below for more detailed information on C-GTVC, the Boeing 737-800 model in general and the airline.

C-GTVC

C-GTVC took its first flight on February 19, 2008 and was delivered to Transavia France on March 4, 2008 as F-FZHC. Transavia France was founded in 2006 and commenced operations in 2007. The airline is owned by Air France and is headquartered in Paray Vieille Poste, France. They currently fly to 56 destinations with a fleet of nearly 30 Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

The Boeing 737-8K2 has been seasonally leased by Air Transat from Transavia since 2006. It was last transferred to Air Transat on December 17, 2017, the first time it took on the C-GTVC registration number. The airliner is configured for a maximum total of 189 passengers in a single class system.

On September 11, 2016, F-GZHC was flying for Transavia from Paris Orly Airport to Faro International Airport in Portugal. Shortly after takeoff, the crew received an alert on a faulty artificial horizon. The B738 was diverted back to Orly for a safe landing. Equipment was replaced and the flight continued on to its destination.

Boeing 737-800

The most popular variant in the Boeing 737 Next Generation Family, over 4,500 Boeing 737-800 aircraft have been delivered since it was introduced in 1998. This is a stretched version of the initial Boeing 737-700 variant, coming in at 19 feet longer.

The B738 is 40 metres or 130 feet in length with a wingspan of 36 metres or 118 feet. At the tail, the airliner stands 13 metres or 41 feet in height. The flight range is 5,436 kilometres and the Boeing 737-800 is a direct competitor to the Airbus A320-200.

Air Transat

Air Transat commenced operations in 1987 and is headquartered in Montreal, Quebec. The Canadian airline has a fleet of nearly 50 aircraft flying to over 60 destinations. The largest in the fleet is the Airbus A330-300 with the smallest being a leased Boeing 737-700. The airline has a collection of classic Airbus A310-300 airliners that they will replace in 2019 with Airbus A321LR models.
