C-GWBU: WestJet Airlines Boeing 737-800 (At Toronto Pearson Airport)

c-gwbu westjet boeing 737-800 toronto pearson yyzOne of 48 Boeing 737-800 aircraft in the main WestJet fleet, we captured C-GWBU back on October 19, 2017 while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). A relative newcomer to the fold, the B738 began service for the Canadian airline in the summer of 2014.

C-GWBU performed its maiden flight on June 14, 2014 and was delivered to WestJet Airlines on June 26, 2014. The Boeing 737-8CT is one of 48 in the main fleet and is configured for a maximum total of 168 passengers. There are 12 seats in premium economy and 156 more economy class seats.

Boeing 737-800

The most popular variant in the Boeing 737 Next Generation Family, there have been over 4,500 Boeing 737-800 models delivered to airlines around the world. The first B738 entered service in 1998. The aircraft is a direct competitor to the Airbus A320-200.

The Boeing 737-800 is 40 metres or 130 feet in length with a wingspan of 36 metres or 118 feet. At the tail, the airplane stands 13 metres or 41 feet in height. The flight range is 5,436 kilometres.

WestJet

WestJet Airlines was founded in 1996 and the Canadian airline is headquartered in Calgary, Alberta. WestJet has a fleet of 126 aircraft with 60 more on order. The airline flies to nearly 110 destinations in Canada, the United States, Europe, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. The number of destinations will begin to grow in 2019 with the addition of some larger range aircraft like the Boeing 737 MAX 10 and the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

Not included in the above numbers are subsidiaries WestJet Encore and Swoop. Encore is a regional brand that flies a fleet of Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 aircraft. Swoop is an ultra low cost carrier that will begin operations in June, 2018 with a small fleet of Boeing 737-800 airliners.
