C-GWSX has had a turbulent past handful of years. The WestJet Boeing 737-800 had two encounters with nasty turbulence between 2015 and 2017 (more on that below). We photographed this aircraft on July 14, 2019 while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

C-GWSX

C-GWSX performed its first flight on June 14, 2010. The Boeing 737-8CT was delivered to WestJet Airlines on June 24, 2010. One of 41 B738 airliners in the main fleet of this Canadian airline, there is seating for 174 passengers on board. There are 12 seats in premium economy and 162 economy class seats.

On November 13, 2015, C-GWSX was flying from Calgary, Alberta to Phoenix, Arizona. Approximately 140 miles north of Salt Lake City, Utah, turbulence caused injuries to two flight attendants and a passenger. The airplane was diverted to Salt Lake City for a safe landing.

On a flight from Toronto, Ontario to Cancun, Mexico on March 13, 2017, this B738 had its initial climb halted at 10,000 feet after an electrical smell was detected in the cockpit and cabin. An emergency was declared and the airplane returned to Toronto for a safe landing.

Later that year, on July 24, 2017, this Boeing 737-800 was flying from Los Angeles, California to Calgary, Alberta. On the climb, between just 500 and 900 feet, turbulence caused an uncommanded roll forcing the autopilot to disconnect. After the pilots took over, the roll was corrected and the flight continued to Calgary as planned. The unexpected turbulence was caused by an Airbus A321 that preceded the B738, despite correct separation.
