D-ABVT
D-ABVT performed its maiden flight on April 14, 1997. The Boeing 747-430 was delivered to Lufthansa on April 28, 1997. One of 13 Boeing 747-400 airliners in the fleet of the Germany based airline, this particular airplane is configured for a maximum total of 393 passengers. There are 43 seats in business class, 32 more in premium economy and 308 economy class seats.
Incidents
On July 31, 2014, this B744 was to fly from Frankfurt, Germany to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. The climb was stopped at 11,000 feet then again at 20,000 feet. Experiencing an issue with the flaps, it was decided to divert back to Frankfurt. The airplane landed safely after a high speed approach.
On a flight from Buenos Aires, Argentina to Frankfurt on March 18, 2017, the aircraft had a bit of a detour. At 40,000 feet, just southwest of Lyon, France, it was decided to divert to Milan, Italy. Icing conditions had surfaced in northern Germany and the airplane had defective de-icing systems. It was an issue that had been repaired in Buenos Aires but had reappeared. An Airbus A321-200 was brought in to take the passengers from Milan to Frankfurt. As it was, D-ABVT was replacing a Boeing 747-8 that was to performed the flight to South America and back.
Most recently, this jumbo jet was flying from Denver, Colorado to Frankfurt. The initial takeoff attempt was rejected at low speed after a cargo smoke indication was received. After no sign of fire, heat or smoke was found, the flight was able to continue two and a half hours later.

Boeing 747-400
The Boeing 747-400 made its maiden flight in 1988 and was introduced in 1989 with Northwest Airlines (since merged with Delta Air Lines). In all, 694 were built with the last produced in 2009 – this includes all the freighter variants. As for the 747-400 passenger plane only, there were 440 produced with the last delivered in 2005.
The B744 is 71 metres or 232 feet in length with a wingspan of 64 metres or 212 feet. At the tail, the aircraft stands 19 metres or 64 feet in height. The flight range is 13,490 kilometres.
Lufthansa
Lufthansa was founded in 1953 and commenced operations in 1955. The airline is headquartered in Cologne, Germany, using Frankfurt and Munich as main hubs. The German airline has a main fleet of nearly 280 aircraft flying to 220 destinations around the world. The fleet is led by Airbus A380-800 and Boeing 747-8 aircraft with still eight Boeing 747-400 remaining, for now.
The airline is a founding member of the Star Alliance. Other founding members include Scandinavian Airlines, Thai Airways, Air Canada and United Airlines. The alliance is headquartered in Frankfurt am Main, Germany and now has 26 full member airlines.
