Not once, but twice, D-AIKO has had issues with burning coffee makers (more on that below). We photographed this Lufthansa Airbus A330-300 on August 22, 2020 while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

D-AIKO

D-AIKO performed its first flight on January 14, 2009. The Airbus A330-343X was delivered to Lufthansa on February 19, 2009. The airliner is named Koblenz and is one of 15 A333 models in the fleet of this German airline.

This Airbus A330-300 is configured for a maximum total of 255 passengers. There are 42 seats in business class, 28 more in premium economy and 185 economy class seats.

Incidents

On June 25, 2013, this airplane had its first battle with a coffee maker. On a flight from Frankfurt, Germany to Detroit, Michigan, an electrical burning odour was detected while cruising at 35,000 over Amsterdam, Netherlands. The flight was diverted to Amsterdam for a safe landing. After nearly a three hour delay and the removal of the faulty coffee maker, the aircraft took off again for its destination.

Move ahead to February 28, 2017 and this Airbus A330-300 was once again the victim of a faulty coffee maker. On a flight from Frankfurt to Dammam, Saudi Arabia, a burning odour was detected while cruising at 37,000 feet over Athens, Greece. The airplane was diverted to Athens for a safe landing. A little more serious than the previous incident, the airliner remained on the ground for over 18 hours before being sent back to Germany.
