The NW at the end of the registration number is the first clue that N361NW formerly flew for Northwest Airlines. The Airbus A320-200 has been with Delta Air Lines since 2009 with the two airlines completing their merger in 2010. We photographed this A320 on May 20, 2018 while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

N361NW

N361NW performed its first flight on October 16, 1998 and was first delivered to Northwest Airlines on November 17, 1998. The Airbus A320-212 was then transferred to Delta Air Lines on July 26, 2009 just prior to the merger between the two airlines finalizing on January 31, 2010.

Northwest Airlines was founded in 1926 as Northwest Airways. The airline was headquartered in Eagan, Minnesota and was a member of the SkyTeam Alliance at the time of it’s demise. At the time of the merger, Northwest had a fleet of 320 aircraft, including their cargo division, and flew to 254 destinations.

This A320 is configured for a maximum total of 157 passengers with 16 seats in first class, 18 more in premium economy and 123 economy class seats. This is one of 62 Airbus A320-200 models in the main Delta fleet.

On March 20, 2013, N361NW was flying from New Orleans, Louisiana to New York’s LaGuardia Airport. On the descent into New York City, the crew experienced a hydraulic failure due to a possible hydraulic leak. The flight was diverted to JFK for a safe landing. The aircraft was shut down on the runway while emergency services checked for leaks and one was indeed found halfway down the fuselage.
