When N585FE first took to the skies, it was a passenger plane for American Airlines (N1759). The McDonnell Douglas MD-11 is now a freighter for FedEx. We photographed N585FE on July 10, 2018 while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

N585FE

N585FE was initially delivered to American Airlines on April 19, 1992 as N1759. After serving six years as a passenger carrier, the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 was converted to a freighter and delivered to FedEx on June 17, 1998. The MD-11F is named Katherine and is one of 57 in the main fleet.

Earlier this year, on April 29, 2018, N585FE was to perform a flight form Memphis, Tennessee to Cologne, Germany. Flying at 37,000 feet, just outside of Newark, New Jersey, a fuel leak was detected. The MD-11F was diverted to Newark for a safe landing. After landing, it was reported that a lot of fuel was coming from the airplane.
