N619FE was supposed to land in the dark on this morning. However, the FedEx MD-11 was delayed and we got to capture it just as the sun was on the rise. We photographed this freighter aircraft on September 12, 2020 while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

Born a freighter, not converted from a passenger plane. N619FE was delivered to FedEx on November 14, 1996 and has been with the cargo carrier ever since. The aircraft is named Lyndon and is one of 53 McDonnell Douglas MD-11F models in the fleet.

MD-11 Freighter
The first McDonnell Douglas MD-11 took its maiden flight on January 10, 1990 and was introduced with launch customer Finnair in December, 1990 as a passenger airliner. In total, 200 were built while 53 were delivered as MD-11 Freighters. The aircraft was manufactured by McDonnell Douglas from 1988 to 1997 and by Boeing from 1997 to 2000. Top operators remain FedEx and Lufthansa Cargo.
The MD-11F is 62 metres or 202 feet in length with a wingspan of 52 metres or 170 feet. The height at the tail is 18 metres or 58 feet. The flight range when fully loaded with cargo is 7,320 kilometres.

FedEx commenced operations in 1973 and is headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee. The cargo airline has a main fleet of nearly 660 aircraft flying to over 375 destinations worldwide. The most numerous in the fleet is the Boeing 757-200SF while the largest is the Boeing 777F.
