This particular Airbus A319-132 has been with AA since April 8, 2015. One of 125 A319 aircraft in the main fleet, N828AW is configured for a maximum total of 128 passengers with eight seats in first class, 18 more seats in premium economy and 102 economy class seats.

On May 9, 2014, flying for U.S. Airways, the airliner was to perform a flight from New York’s La Guardia Airport to Washington National Airport in Washington, DC. On the initial climb, the airplane experienced a bird strike in the left side engine. The result was ample vibration. The aircraft was leveled off at 4,000 and did not have to land in the middle of the Hudson River. Instead, they returned to La Guardia for a safe landing 15 minutes after departing.
