Nearly a year after a cracked windshield made a flight from Chicago to Mexico City interesting for the crew, we photographed N840UA while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) on June 29, 2018. This is currently one of 67 Airbus A319-100 aircraft in the main United Airlines fleet with more on the way.

N840UA
N840UA performed its first flight on March 29, 2001 and was delivered to United Airlines on June 29, 2001. The Airbus A319-131 is configured for a maximum total of 128 passengers with eight seats in first class, 42 more in premium economy and 78 economy class seats. This is one of 67 A319 models currently in the main fleet with 34 more on the way. Donald Trump probably would not like the fact that 14 of those 34 airplanes manufactured in France are being acquired used from China Southern Airlines.
On December 17, 2014, N840UA was flying from Los Angeles, California to Newark, New Jersey. Just southwest of Cleveland, Ohio, cruising at 37,000 feet, smoke was detected in the cabin. The aircraft was diverted to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) for a safe landing.
A few years later, on September 18, 2016, the Airbus A319-100 experienced an interesting issue while waiting to takeoff from Denver, Colorado for a flight to Reno, Nevada. Just before lining up for takeoff, crew realized there was a brake failure. The aircraft rolled across the runway and came to a stop with the nose gear on soft ground. A replacement aircraft was brought in to continue the flight.
On July 20, 2017, N840UA was flying from Chicago, Illinois to Mexico City, Mexico. At 35,000, around 200 miles out of Mexico City, the left side cockpit windshield cracked. The aircraft was brought down to 10,000 feet before continuing on to the destination for a safe landing.
Airbus A319-100
The maiden flight of the Airbus A319-100 occurred on August 25, 1995 with the aircraft introduced with launch customer Swissair in 1996. The shortened version of the Airbus A320-200, the A319 is 34 metres or 111 feet in length with a wingspan of 36 metres or 118 feet. At the tail, the airplane is 12 metres or 39 feet in height. The flight range is 6,950 kilometres.
