I wish we’d see something bigger than N940AT from Delta Air Lines at Toronto Pearson but that isn’t going to happen. It just does’t make sense for it to happen. So, we’ll make due with these Boeing 717-200 models or even the odd 737 and 757. We photographed this B712 on October 5, 2019 while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

N940AT
N940AT was first delivered to AirTran on November 26, 1999. The Boeing 717-2BD was put in storage in December, 2014 as AirTran began to be swallowed up by Southwest Airlines. On October 4, 2015, this airplane was delivered to Delta Air Lines.
This airliner is configured for a maximum total of 110 passengers. There are 12 seats in first class, 20 more in premium economy and 78 economy class seats. N940AT is one of 91 B712 models in the main fleet of this Atlanta, Georgia based airline.

Boeing 717-200
The maiden flight of the Boeing 717-200 took place on September 2, 1998 and the first entered service with launch customer AirTran on October 12, 1999. The final B712 ever built was also delivered to AirTran. Originally, this was to be the MD-95 built by McDonnell Douglas but the two manufacturers merged in 1997. In all, 156 were built between 1998 and 2006.
The Boeing 717-200 is 38 metres or 124 feet in length with a wingspan of 28 metres or 93 feet. At the tail, the aircraft stands nine metres or 30 feet in height. Delta Air Lines is the currently the world’s largest operator of the B712 with 91 in service.
Delta Air Lines
The airline was founded in 1924 as Huff Daland Dusters and commenced operations as Delta Air Lines in 1929. Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, Delta is a founding member of the SkyTeam Alliance. Other founding members include AeroMexico, Air France and Korean Air. There are now 20 full members and the alliance is headquartered at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in the Netherlands.
The main Delta fleet has nearly 890 aircraft flying to 325 destinations around the world. The highest capacity airliner in the fleet is the Airbus A350-900. The most numerous in the fleet is the Boeing 737-900ER. All their Boeing 747-400 airplanes were phased out with the last retired in 2017.
