The number of aircraft branded KLM Asia is dwindling. The Boeing 747-400 Combi models are gone. PH-BQL is on of seven Boeing 777-200ER aircraft left under the KLM Asia brand. We photographed this airliner on August 6, 2022 while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

PH-BQL
PH-BQL performed its first flight on February 14, 2006. The Boeing 777-206ER was delivered to KLM Royal Dutch Airlines on February 28, 2006. The airliner is named Litomysl Castle.
This aircraft is configured for a maximum total of 316 passengers. There are 34 seats in business class, 40 more in premium economy and 242 in economy.
PH-BQL was transferred from the main fleet in March, 2012. This is one of nine aircraft under the KLM Asia brand, seven are Boeing 777-200ER and two are Boeing 777-300ER.
On February 16, 2012, the airplane was departing for a flight to Atlanta, Georgia on a flight from Amsterdam, Netherlands. At 15,000 feet, the came with a few feet of hitting a weather balloon. The collision was avoided and the flight continued safely to its final destination.
An oil leak corrupted a May 20, 2015 flight from Cape Town, South Africa to Amsterdam. Two and a half hours into the flight, the crew turned around and returned to the point of departure after an oil leak was detected in the right side engine. Two days later, PH-BQL was able to return to Amsterdam.

Boeing 777-200ER
The ‘extended range’ version of the Boeing 777-200, the Boeing 777-200ER has a flight range of 13,080 kilometres. This is 3,400 KM more than the base -200 but nearly 3,000 KM less than the Boeing 777-200LR version.
The aircraft is 64 metres or 209 feet in length with a wingspan of 61 metres or 200 feet. At the tail, the airplane stands 19 metres or 61 feet in height. This variant was first introduced in 1997 with British Airways as the launch customer.
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines
The KLM in KLM Royal Dutch Airlines stands for Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij. The airline was founded in October, 1919, making it the oldest airline in the world still operating under its original name. The airline is headquartered in Amstelven, Netherlands and uses Amsterdam Schiphol Airport as its main hub.
The airline currently has nearly 120 aircraft in the main fleet, flying to 145 destinations around the world. The airline merged with Air France in 2004, the same year it joined the SkyTeam Alliance. SkyTeam was founded in 2000 and now has 20 full member airlines.
This airline was the last to operate the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 for passenger service. The last in the fleet was retired in 2014.
