TC-LJD

TC-LJD first took to the skies on December 1, 2015 and was delivered to THY Turkish Airlines on December 22, 2015. The Boeing 777-3F2ER, named Selimiye, is configured for a maximum total of 349 passengers with 49 seats in business class and 300 economy class seats. This is one of 33 B77W airliners in the main fleet.

On Feburary 19, 2018, TC-LJD was performing a flight from Miami, Florida to Istanbul, Turkey. The Boeing 777-300ER made the journey and landed safely at its destination. However, when touching down, the airplane burst one of its left main tires. After eight hours on the ground, the airliner returned to service.

Boeing 777-300ER

The Boeing 777-300ER was first delivered to launch customer Air France in 2004, nearly a decade after the initial 777 variant was introduced with United Airlines in 1995. The ER is for ‘extended range’ and this aircraft can fly a lofty 13,650 kilometres between stops.

The B77W is 74 metres or 242 feet in length with a wingspan of 65 metres or 213 feet. At the tail, the airliner is 19 metres or 61 feet in height. Though not the most glamorous of the big airplanes, the Boeing 777-300ER is longer than both the Boeing 747-400 (by 10 feet) and Airbus A380-800 (by 3 feet).

THY Turkish Airlines

Turkish Airlines was founded on May 20, 1933. Officially called THY Turkish Airlines, the THY stands for Turk Hava Yollari. The airline is headquartered at Instanbul Ataturk Airport (IST) and has a fleet of nearly 340 aircraft flying to over 300 destinations in 120 countries. A member of the Star Alliance of airlines, Turkish Airlines joined on April 1, 2008. Their largest aircraft at this time is the Boeing 777-300ER, an aircraft they have 33 of.
