New Toronto Pearson Plane Spotting Video (Sort Of…)

It’s newly published to YouTube. The clips have been on my hard drive since July, 2017. But, better late than never. This video shows 46 different aircraft on final approach to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

That day was an experiment to try and resolve my conflict of whether I should shoot photos or take video. The setup I was trying allowed me to do both. My GoPro Hero 5 Black was physically connected to my Canon Rebel T6i DSLR camera via a simple hot shoe adapter.

What I got were decent videos and the same quality photos as I always get. So, the experiment worked. But, I still took issue with not being able to zoom with the GoPro. I also took issue with the camera noise from the DSLR being captured by the GoPro. This is a problem easily remedied by going with silent shooting.

The full roster of the 46 aircraft can be found below. Some of the highlights are a Royal Air Force Airbus A400M, a Textron Airland Scorpion, a pair of Boeing 747-400 and a pair of classic Airbus A310-300 models belonging to Air Transat.

We started shooting road side at Director Gate, a short connector street just off Dixie Road, near Derry. The winds shifted so moved over to the standard location behind the Wendy’s on Airport Road.
