These Boeing 787-9 airliners like B-1128, with their subtle but beautiful livery, arrived in the China Southern Airlines fleet a year before the pandemic. However, they didn’t really start to arrive in Toronto until after COVID-19 had screwed everything up. On August 5, 2022, we finally photographed one for the website.

B-1128

This B789 performed its first flight on July 14, 2018. The aircraft was delivered to China Southern Airlines on July 24, 2018. This was the fifth to be delivered. There are currently 17 in the fleet with three more on order, slated to arrive before 2022 ends.

B-1128 is configured for a maximum capacity of 297 passengers. There are 28 seats in business class and 269 more in economy.

Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner


The first B789 took flight on September 17, 2013 and first entered service with Air New Zealand on July 8, 2014. This aircraft is 63 metres or 206 feet in length, 20 feet longer than the initial Boeing 787-8 variant. Both models share the same 60 metre or 197 foot wingspan. At the tail, the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner stands 17 metres or 56 feet in height.

China Southern Airlines

China Southern Airlines was founded on July 1, 1988 and is headquartered at Guangzhou, Guangdong, China. CSAir was the eleventh member to join the SkyTeam Alliance, joining in 2007. There are now 20 full members airlines in the alliance.

The airline has a fleet of nearly 650 aircraft (including the aircraft in their cargo division). China Southern flies to over 215 destinations around the world. The most numerous airliner found in the fleet is the Boeing 737-800 with over 160. They are one of a select few airlines flying Airbus A380-800 variants with five in service.
