C-FRYV: WestJet Boeing 737 MAX 8 (In Service For Less Than A Month)

Currently, this is one of five MAX 8 aircraft in the main fleet of the Canadian airline.

C-FRYV

C-FRYV performed its maiden flight on February 12, 2018 and was delivered to WestJet on March 1, 2018. The Boeing 737 MAX 8 is configured for a maximum total of 174 passengers with 12 seats in premium economy and 162 economy class seats. This is six seats more than the airline’s Boeing 737-800 variants. As mentioned, this is currently one of five MAX 8 airliners in the WestJet fleet with 15 more on order.

Boeing 737 MAX 8

The initial variant in the Boeing 737 MAX family, the Boeing 737 MAX 8 performed its first flight on January 29, 2016. On May 22, 2017, the model was introduced to the commercial aircraft world with launch customer Malindo Air. As of January, 2018, there are over 4,000 orders for 737 MAX aircraft with just 80 orders filled.

The Boeing 737 MAX 8 is 40 metres or 130 feet in length, just slightly longer than the Boeing 737-800. The wingspan is is 36 metres or 118 feet and the height at the tail is 12 metres or 40 feet, making it slightly shorter than the B738. The flight range is 6,570 kilometres, around 1,000 KM more than the Boeing 737-800.

WestJet

WestJet was founded in 1996 and is headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The ever-growing fleet stands today at 126 aircraft with 60 more on order. WestJet flies Boeing 767-300ER, all variants of the Boeing 737 Next Generation Family and the Boeing 737 MAX 8. Soon to enter the fold are Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, Boeing 737 MAX 10 and Boeing 737 MAX 7 models.

The main fleet flies to around 110 destinations throughout Canada, as well as in the United States, Europe, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. Regional subsidiary WestJet Encore has a fleet of Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 aircraft. Ultra low cost carrier subsidiary Swoop commences operations in June, 2018 with a small fleet of Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
