For C-GVIJ, CargoJet Airways is the sixth airline for this Boeing 767-300ER. Life started with Air France in 1994 as a passenger plane. It was converted to a freighter before being delivered to ABX Air in 2013. We photographed this B763 on July 14, 2019 while plane spotting at John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (YHM).

C-GVIJ

C-GVIJ performed its first flight on February 7, 1994. The Boeing 767-328ER was first delivered to Air France on March 7, 1994 as F-GHGK. Not long after, on June 13, 1996, the B763 joined the fleet of Sobelair as OO-STF. That Belgian airline was founded and commenced operations in 1946 and ceased operations on January 19, 2004.

The next stop was Asiana Airlines as HL7200. The Boeing 767-300ER was with that airline from 2001 until the end of 2005. The airliner was delivered to Royal Air Maroc on January 28, 2006 as CN-ROG. It was put into storage in February, 2012. The conversion to a freighter had begun.

On August 6, 2013, the aircraft was delivered to ABX Air as N365CM and as a cargo plane. ABX Air was founded in 1980 as Airborne Express. The freight carrier is headquartered in Clinton County, Ohio and has a fleet of 37 aircraft, all Boeing 767 variants.

C-GVIJ began its life with CargoJet Airways on March 9, 2015.

C-GVIJ Incidents

In December, 2016, this Boeing 767-300ER had a string of nagging problems with the flaps. It started on December 15, on a flight from Hamilton, Ontario to Vancouver, British Columbia. On final approach to YVR, crew experienced a flaps issue and went around. The aircraft landed safely on the second attempt. As a result, the #3 flap position transmitter and left flap / stabilizer position module were replaced.

Fast forward two weeks. On a December 28, 2016 flight from Halifax, Nova Scotia to Cologne, Germany, crew received a trailing edge flap disagree indication. The airplane went around and landed safely on the second attempt. This time, the #7 transmission was replaced.

The following day, December 29, 2016, on the return from Cologne to Hamilton, Ontario, flaps problems once again marred the landing. On approach to YHM, a TE FLAPS DISAGREE message was received. The aircraft landed safely. Again, the #7 transmission was at fault and was replaced.

Boeing 767-300ER

The first Boeing 767-300ER was introduced with launch customer American Airlines in 1988, seven years after the initial 767 variant entered service with United Airlines in 1981. A direct competitor to the Airbus A330-200, 583 were delivered, in all.

The B763 is 55 metres or 180 feet in length with a wingspan of 48 metres or 156 feet. At the tail, the airliner stands 16 metres or 52 feet in height. The flight range is 11,070 kilometres.

CargoJet Airways

CargoJet Airways was founded in 2002, formed out of Canada 3000 Cargo. The freight company is headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario and uses John C. Munro International Airport (YHM) in Hamilton, Ontario as its main hub.

The airline currently has a fleet of 21 aircraft flying to a number of destinations in Canada, the United States and Bermuda. The fleet is made up of a mix of Boeing 767-300ER, Boeing 767-200 and Boeing 757-200 models.
