N592FE, another of the American Airlines rejects. The McDonnell Douglas MD-11 was converted to a freighter after just seven years as a passenger plane and has been with FedEx ever since. We photographed this MD-11F on July 14, 2019 while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

N592FE was first delivered to American Airlines as a passenger plane on February 11, 1993. At the time, the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 was registered as N1760A. It was converted to a freighter and delivered to FedEx on January 13, 2000.
This is one of 58 MD-11 F aircraft currently in the FedEx fleet. The airplane is named ‘Hope’. Some sources have the name erroneously as ‘Joshua’.

McDonnell Douglas MD-11F
The first McDonnell Douglas MD-11 took its maiden flight on January 10, 1990 and was introduced with launch customer Finnair in December, 1990 as a passenger airliner. In total, 200 were built while 53 were delivered as MD-11 Freighters. The aircraft was manufactured by McDonnell Douglas from 1988 to 1997 and by Boeing from 1997 to 2000. Top operators remain FedEx and Lufthansa Cargo.
The MD-11F is 62 metres or 202 feet in length with a wingspan of 52 metres or 170 feet. The height at the tail is 18 metres or 58 feet. The flight range when fully loaded with cargo is 7,320 kilometres.

FedEx commenced operations in 1973 and is headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee. The cargo airline has a main fleet of nearly 660 aircraft flying to over 375 destinations worldwide. The most numerous in the fleet is the Boeing 757-200SF while the largest is the Boeing 777F.
