When Southwest Airlines bought AirTran, they had no interest in that airline’s Boeing 717-200 aircraft, like N956AT. The fleet was shipped to Delta Air Lines and this airliner has been with them since 2014. We photographed the B712 on September 8, 2019 while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

N956AT

N956AT was first delivered to AirTran on December 21, 2000. The Boeing 717-2BD was then transferred to Delta Air Lines on April 23, 2014. AirTran ceased to exist on December 28, 2014 after being acquired by Southwest Airlines.

AirTran commenced operations in 1993 as Conquest Sun Airlines and was renamed in 1994. At the time of their demise, they had a fleet of 140 aircraft flying to 69 destinations. The airline was headquartered in Orlando, Florida.

N956AT is configured for a maximum total of 110 passengers. There are 12 seats in first class, 20 more in premium economy and 78 economy class seats. This is one of 91 Boeing 717-200 models in the Atlanta based airline’s main fleet.

On November 10, 2006, flying for AirTran from Altanta, Georgia to Memphis, Tennessee, this Boeing 717-200 experienced a bit of trouble after landing. The airplane was driven off the taxiway and the nose landing gear collapsed.
