Getting on to three and half years in service, PH-BHC has already had a significant incident in the skies. In late 2017, an engine stalled while taking off from Amsterdam on the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, forcing the KLM crew to dump fuel and return to the point of departure. We photographed the B789 on June 29, 2018 while plane spotting at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

PH-BHC
PH-BHC took its first flight on October 19, 2015 and was delivered to KLM Royal Dutch Airlines on November 13, 2015. The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner is named Zonnebloem (Sunflower) and is one of 12 in the main KLM fleet. The aircraft is configured for a maximum total of 294 passengers with 30 seats in business class, 48 more in premium economy and 216 economy class seats.
On December 10, 2017, PH-BHC was to fly from Amsterdam, Netherlands to Chengdu, China. On the initial climb, thrust was lost on the left side engine. The engine remained running but at idle. Fuel was dumped over the North Sea and the Boeing 787-9 returned for a safe landing at Amsterdam.
Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner
The first B789 took flight on September 17, 2013 and first entered service with Air New Zealand on July 8, 2014. This aircraft is 63 metres or 206 feet in length, 20 feet longer than the initial Boeing 787-8 variant. Both models share the same 60 metre or 197 foot wingspan. At the tail, the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner stands 17 metres or 56 feet in height.
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines
Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij, also known as KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, was founded on October 7, 1919. This makes it the oldest airline in the world still operating under its original name. Headquartered in Amstelveen, Netherlands, the airline has a fleet of 119 aircraft flying to 145 destinations around the world.
The airline merged with Air France in 2004 and is a has been a member of the SkyTeam Alliance since that year. SkyTeam was founded in 2000 and now has 20 full member airlines worldwide.
